In my last update, I actually spent a good bit of time describing our personnel needs related to our student summer programmes, and I did so as an actual appeal. I shared a few specifics in that previous update, but it remained rather general in nature. In this month, I’d like to mention three projects that we are really trying to fill with students this summer.
Also, and this might explain the title for this section, for logistical and other reasons, we are looking for some guys to fill these slots. For some reason over the past 10-20 years, we’ve seen a real decline in the number of college-age guys, who are willing to be involved in summer missions. Their absence on-field is quite noticeable and frankly bewildering. We are grateful to the Lord for the ongoing faithfulness and zeal of our college-age sisters, who continue to serve in summer missions and in large numbers. However, because of some of these needs, when it comes to the guys, we could really use your help in connecting and recruiting “a few good men,” to borrow a recruiting slogan used by the US Marines (actually goes back to 1779 and Captain William Jones). Here are the specific teams, where we need some guys to complete them and your help in finding these guys.
Surfing Team in Wales
We have a student team for Wales, which will use surfing as a means of connecting with people for the sake of the Gospel. We have one student already assigned to this team, but we need at least one more guy to complete this team (could be more than that, but at least one guy). The dates are 9 July – 8 August. Do you know of a Christian, college-age guy, who is a surfer and might be interested in using his love of surfing as a means of communicating his love of Jesus with others? Would you be willing to speak with him about this opportunity, please?
Golfing Team in Scotland
As with the previous team in Wales, we have a team to use golf as a connection point with not-yet-believers in Scotland. We have one, young man applying for the project at this time. Again, we need at least one other guy to join him (could be more than 1, but at least 1) in order to complete this team. The dates are the same as the surfing team. Again, do you know of a Christian, college-age guy, who is a golfer and might be interested in using his love of golfing as a means of communicating his love of Jesus with others? Would you be willing to speak with him about this opportunity, please?
Skateboarding/BMX Team in Wales
Finally and in a similar fashion, we have another team for Wales, where the students would use their passion for skateboarding and/or BMX as a connection point with not yet believers. Again, we need at least 1 guy to make this project happen, though 2 would be even better. Same dates as the other two projects. And yet again, does this sound like any college-age, Christian guys that you might know? Would you consider speaking with them personally about this opportunity?
